Dr. Anita Brookner has advised us that, on the basis of a photograph, she considers the present picture an authograph work by Greuze.
Three other versions of the above composition are known; one at Waddesdon Manor, another formerly with G. Wildenstein, Paris, and a third in a sale at Ball and Graupe, Berlin, 4-5 March 1932.
